On January 13, 2024, at approximately 0153 hours, Officer Severson was dispatched to an assist fire call.
Upon his arrival he could see smoke exiting the residence. Officer Severson contacted subjects in a
vehicle right outside of the location. He spoke to the group who advised the home was theirs. They
stated the fire started in the living and was possibly caused from an electrical issue. Officer Severson
requested the subjects go to a nearby parking lot so KFD could work on extinguishing the fire.
KFD was able to put out the fire, but due to the methods they had to use the home was inhabitable.
Fellow officers informed the homeowner of this. The owner was asked if he had somewhere to go for
the night, in which he advised he would have to get a hotel. Due to the circumstances, it was decided to
use the Community Care Fund to purchase two nights at the Red Lion (1101 N Columbia Center Blvd) for
him, his wife, and his daughter.
