On October 4, 2023, Officer Markley spoke with a social worker with Lewis and Clark Elementary School
called asking for temporary assistance with a family that have been living out of a vehicle with 3 juvenile
children. Yesterday, 10/03/2023, their vehicle was involved in a collision and was totaled. family have
been able to get assistance with places to stay on and off and are looking for assistance until they are

able to obtain more permanent housing. Utilizing the community care fund Officer Markley was able to
secure two nights at the Red Lion Hotel in Kennewick on Columbia Center Blvd. Officer Markley met the
mother and two of her kids at the location. She explained that she has been trying to work with DSHS to
obtain housing, however the process has been slow and the times they have been able to assist is has
not been enough funding for long term stays. She added that she had been involved in abusive
relationships and would rather stay in her vehicle with her children than expose them to a negative
environment. She is trying to obtain a new vehicle from a friend to borrow for the time being. Officer
Markley secured a room for two nights utilizing the Community Care Fund.
