On 6/1/22 at approximately 1855 hours Officers Engel and Greg responded to a disturbance at 4321 W Hood Ave, D6 for a disturbance. A female had custody of her sister’s 1-month old baby girl. Her parents were at the location seeking to recover the child before CPS could place the child fully in her custody. The parents have known drug history, including the mother leaving drug treatment uncompleted the day prior to this incident. Officers told them that the child stays with the aunt or they would be taken into protective custody. The elected to leavewith the baby staying with her aunt. While checking the welfare of baby officers learned that the sudden arrival had left baby woefully unprepared and CPS had not been able to supply her with needed items. Without hesitation, Officer Gregg asked what she needed and toldher “we’ll be right back.” We went to Walmart and purchased a car seat, baby clothes, toiletries, diapers and wipes, and as much infant formulaas we were allowed to buy at one time. They returned and gave the items to aunt along with $300 in Visa gift cars that were donated previously by church groups.
