September 28, 2024September 26, 2024 Officer Rodriguez was dispatched to a traffic hazard at the intersection of E 10th Ave/ S Gum Street. Responding officers located a brown steer at the intersection. From personal experience, he know of multiple residences nearby that have farm animals on their property. He contacted various residences when I came upon a female resident who advised her father owned a lot of bulls in a pasture that lies just north of her residence. He showed her a picture of the steer which she advised does not belong to her father. However, she advised she would love to help us out to get the steer in her father’s pasture until the rightful owner claims the steer. She grabbed some feed as an option to help us corral the steer into her father’s pasture. The steer had left the initial intersection heading west on E 10th Ave. until it was cornered in an open lot near the intersection of E 10th/ S Beech St. She called her father and he shortly after arrived at our location to help. He father grabbed a lasso and was able to wrangle up the steer. Eventually, the steer gave responding officers a lot of hassle in attempting to gain control of the steer. Various methods of attempting to gain control of the steer were attempted until the steer began to run east on E 10th Ave ending up in the back of the residence of 609 W 10th Ave. The steer with the lasso still around his neck, the father thought of the idea of tying up the steer to a big tree. The steer was eventually controlled with the efforts her father provided us with.
A photograph of the steer was uploaded onto the Kennewick Police Facebook page with hopes of finding the rightful owner. The rightful owner, called at the end of my patrol shift and picked up the steer from the location. With the effort and support the female and her father made the steer would have not been controlled. Thus, it was determined by Sergeant Thatsana that their act of kindness to aid their local police department would be rewarded with a customized Visa Gift card of $100.
