On 07/12/2022 at 0750 hours, Officer J Campbell was dispatched to where an attempted auto theft occurred sometime between 2000 on the 11th and the time of the call. Upon arrival, I interviewed, a female, who is the vehicles owner’s girlfriend/children’s mother. The vehicle is agreen 1997 GMC Yukon bearing WA plates, 734ZTT, and the owner, who discovered his vehicle unlocked and heavily damaged this morning byan unknown suspect. While on scene, I spoke with Smith about her living situation and the Kennewick Police Foundation Community CareFund. She said they did not know how they were going to pay for fixing the ignition as it was completely destroyed and wouldn’t turn thevehicle on any longer. They have six children, the victim works full time, and the reporting party depends on this vehicle to support their children. Sergeant Taylor approved using the Community Care Fund to pay for Mounts Lock and Key to fix the vehicles ignition. The Mountstechnician attempted to fix, the ignition on scene and the vehicle was going to need further fixing at a mechanic shop because of how damagedthe electrical wiring and internal ignition parts were. The Mounts technician had a new ignition in stock and matched it to the original key forthe victim. I used the fund’s debit card at Mounts to pay for their service on this victim vehicle. I was able to contact Car Doctor in Pasco whosaid they would be able to come to Heatherstone and attempt repair on location to work around needing a tow. They replaced the ignition switch and electronics. I used the fund’s debit card to pay for their services for this victim. The victim was very thankful for the Kennewick Police helping with this repair and the two businesses involved were appreciative for the work and acknowledged the kind gesture of helpingthis Kennewick family. The vehicle needed more labor to finish the job at Car Doctor of Pasco. They have concluded their work and I paid for the rest of this family’s bill there. They are extremely thankful their family vehicle is back up and running.
