To enhance the positive relationship between the Kennewick Police Department and our community at large through supporting community and department related events and programs. While also providing support for our officers and staff of the Kennewick Police Department not currently supported through existing channels.

About the Kennewick Police Department Foundation

The Kennewick Police Department Foundation (KPDF) began in 2009 and was the idea of Kennewick Police Chief Ken Hohenberg.  The idea of a foundation allowed for the police department to have a mechanism to support external and internal needs that were either funded by the individual officer or would not traditionally occur utilizing city funds.  The Community Care Fund followed in 2015 and was the thoughtful idea of Chief Hohenberg, Dave Retter, and Jim Spracklen.  This fund allows for KPD staff to support individuals in their greatest time of need.  This fund has provided countless gallons of gas, hotel stays, clothing, car seats, and in almost all cases hope!  In 2024 the Kennewick Police Department, supported by the KPDF, launched the Positive Policing Program.  This program allows KPD Officers to highlight outstanding citizen acts with a token of thanks in the form of a gift card.

Since its inception, the KPDF has been supported by an outstanding, forward thinking, Foundation Board.  This board of volunteers’ sole mission is to support the enhancement of positive relationships between the Kennewick Police Department and the community.  This has and continues to be accomplished by the boards support for the use of the Community Care Fund, the Positive Policing Program, tools and training for officer health and resiliency, internal equipment needs, and involvement in community events.
