On July 16, 2019 officers made contact with a male multiple times throughout the day. He
walked from Pasco to Kennewick with his 15-month old baby. After multiple contacts and
attempts to get him assistance with a hotel room for the night for him and his son, he
continued to refuse. Mental Health Professional riding with officer made contact with him. It
was determined that the best course of action was for him was to receive mental health
treatment. There was no one in Tri-Cities that could care for his son. The child’s grandmother
was able to drive to Tri-Cities from out of state to take the child but didn’t have a proper car
seat to safely transport the child. Funds were used to purchase a car seat. Grandmother stated
that she would not need it when they got home. It was arranged for the car seat to be given to
the local police department to be used when needed there. She was very appreciative.
