Community Care Cases

On June 11, 2018 Detectives were investigating the sexual assault of an 11 year old female. She
was removed from the mother’s care as the mother had allowed her daughter to be placed into
danger by the suspect. The victim was immediately taken in by an aunt in Hermiston who
provided a secure family environment for her. The family is of limited means as the husband
has just started a new job and waiting for first paycheck. They are however committed to the
successful conclusion of the case. It was asked of them to bring victim to the station, they said
travel and gas was difficult due to the limited finances especially when they have to feed
another person. The aunt agreed to drive the victim to Kennewick for an interview. Upon
completion of the she was provided a full tank of gas and a $100 gift card to Safeway for
groceries. Through tears the aunt explained that she had scraped together $10 to have enough
gas to get to Kennewick and back to Hermiston and that her vehicle had not had a full tank of
gas in some time.
